partially this, partially that. my life is a pie chart? so tired. hibernation, zombie sort of tired. took 15 minutes to haul myself out of bed this morning. sooooooooo happy to have vacation in T minus ONE WEEK.
i was feeling calm about christmas stuff but i'm starting to get stressed out. mostly because i feel i have no time for anything. partially true, partially driven by stress. actually it's mostly driven by stress. only a couple nights this week are booked up, but the little bit of spare time feels like nothing. the entire weekend is booked up, and i'm working monday-tuesday next week, so the last minute things really must wait til last minute, next wednesday. ugh.
i'm feeling quite negative about my job lately. partially it's because i really don't care about the industry any more, and 90% of the tasks i have lately are marketing-related, which is forcing me to "play the game", or at least think like the game requires one to think. it's all plastic people politics and appearances-rule bullshit, and i am so incredibly tired of it. it seems so glamorous from the outside, but really, the film industry is a shellacked tomato that looks so pretty and red and perfect on the outside but on the inside it's slimy and rotten and decomposing filth.
the other partially adding to the negativity is that it's dark when i leave my house, it's dark when i leave the studio, and i am soooo tired and low energy it feels like going to work and spending 8 hours here sucks up all the time i could've used for something more productive than this. blah.
well that certainly isn't a happy post. despite feeling dragged down lately, i am happy with all other parts of my life. friends are great, sewing is great, i'm simplifying so many things and clearing mind weeds. the other day i emptied my email inbox, deleted about 800 messages. i realized i don't need to keep all these things. except a handful of messages from my grandma, and some family pictures from my aunt, it was all transitory. i am resisting the packrat urges and it's good. and sewing - my quilt blocks are sitting there taunting me, and i will finish them. i WILL. but this week i've been making a steampunk costume for the dinner and party we're attending on saturday. steampunk christmas! so cool! the skirt went easily but the top has been tricky. i discovered my dress form's boobs are higher than mine - so when i start fitting something and it looks acceptable on the form, i try it on and it's wonky on me. oops. something to keep in mind when/if i start sewing other clothes for myself. it's been fun though. last night i hit up the sally ann and got a velvet skirt that i cannibalized into a fitted top with tails and a bustle. sewing machine was the best investment of 2009!
back to the grind. we're going to see It's A Wonderful Life tonight. live theatre. double date! looking forward to that.
i really just need to relax. take my time with things and not let pressure get to me. i'll try...

What: Lady Gaga Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre When: December 9, 2009 Status: Sold Out Rating: 5 out of 5
I purposely missed the opening act Kid Cudi and read pages of a Neil Young Bio instead, however, arrived just in time to dance with 2/3 of Davie Street to Michael Jackson’s greatest hits that graced the speakers prior to Lady Gaga’s arrival.
Whether you like Lady Gaga’s music or not, it was less about the music and more about the show. She was able to utilize the space limitations of the Q.E. Theatre and with the magic of various fiber optic mesh screens, creating a 3-D illusion show that only Gaga herself could pull off. A complete show graduate from opening for the NKOTB earlier last year.
She relied too much on backing tracks, more than necessary considering that what she did sing, she sung well and has a set of pipes. She proved her musicianship and her credibility on the piano performing an unplugged almost jazz version of Poker Face. This confused the audience and almost disappointed most, however, Lady Gaga, aware of her audience, performed the real dance version later on in the set.
Speechless was another performance done on the piano, however, the change of pace diminished the feeling of the show which was a clear bathroom break for me.
Lady Gaga had more costume changes than Cher, however, unlike Cher she actually looked good and pulled off most of her bizarre costumes. My personal favorite of the evening was the black crow dress. Lady Gaga wasn’t the only one in costume as there were a few selected girls in the audience whom dug out their best stripper outfits for the occasion.
She showed the musicians behind the screens which was pointless considering that she could’ve and should’ve just played the CD in the background and sung over the backing tracks. Maybe this was her attempt at proving her musical credibility, however, once again, it was less about the music and more about the show.
I was surprised that she played Boys Boys Boys off of “The Fame” considering that she was quoted in “The Westender” earlier in the year as purposely not playing that song on “The Fame” tour or ever for that matter ‘cause she didn’t want it to be a pride anthem.
It was truly a performance art piece with a few adult and questionable content…Lady Gaga style of course.

Gareth is watching UFC with the boys at his place. The Girls are defiantly louder than the boys. This is better than Mike Tyson’s punch out 8-bit Nintendo Game.
8:05 pm = Scored a 4 pack of Sugar Free Jones Soda made with Splenda at the Dollar Store. Yes that is 4 bottles of Jones for $1 at the Dollar Store. Don’t worry Jamie, saved you a bottle for movie night.
9:00 pm = 1000 ways to die = breast implants that explode on planes.

dream peaceful, nana
Marjorie Ethel Selena Stenning (née Chinnery): 18 March 1920 - 30 November 2009 It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Marjorie Stenning announces the passing of our dear mother and grandmother. Marjorie, who was born in England on 18 March 1920 and came to Canada as a war bride in 1946, passed away comfortably surrounded by her loving family on 30 November 2009. Strong and gracious to the end, she touched the hearts of many with her kindness and generosity. Marjorie is predeceased by her beloved husband Vic, and survived by her children Dawne Nelson (Doug), Mark Stenning (Pat), Lynn Wight (Geoff), and Carol Hobbs; her eight grandchildren (Tera, Dana, Rick, Dan, Jonathan, Martin, Bryan, and Katie); Dawne's step-daughters (Debby and Shelly); her devoted brother Ken Chinnery and his caring family in England; and her Stenning nieces and nephews, with many thanks to her niece Cecile Halsey for her continuous love and affection. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her many friends at Chelsea Gardens, whose companionship she held so dear. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Drs. Niamh and Larry Darby, and to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the palliative care unit of Peace Arch Hospital for their wonderful care and support. We love and miss you Mum, and you will always have a very special place in our hearts. At Mum's request, a private family service will be held. A donation in her memory can be made to a charity of your choice. "Till We Meet Again Some Sunny Day..."

![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/59346379/2591630) [Link] | this morning i phoned 50 people. 47 messages. the phone is starting to ring with replies, and i can't believe how exhausted i am. so much talking! so much repeating the same info! i don't mind, i actually do enjoy phoning the orchestras. but astonishingly i am out of breath from being clear and cheerful and professional for hours of leaving messages.
had to deal with a hotel booking today - booked it, changed it, and then changed it back to the original booking. why can't some people make up their minds and stick to it? that's how the rest of the world works. you book it, and hey! you've booked it! i would be a bad personal assistant. i am completely not a Yes person. i'm an Are You Sure About That? person.
i want to go back to new zealand. friends are posting pictures of summer now, and it looks so beautiful! i also want to go back to berlin... and london, since i don't consider the rushed 22 hours there "being in london". i've been around london, but i didn't see too much and it was so fast i didn't enjoy really any of it. plus i'd rather forget i traveled with the person i was traveling with. blech. so probably before i get back to new zealand or berlin, i will go to london with the love of my life, and spend a good chunk of time exploring and seeing what i want to see, which is all the things i didn't see last time - everything, really. oh and while i'm on the subject of travel, i want to go to toronto. partially to go to the canadian east, but mostly to see a dear dear friend who is living there. i miss her.
friday! woooo!

![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/60356864/882997) [Link] | November 30, 2009 11:31 am = Finished them Cooked Vultures review.
1:20 pm = The other day I made home made rainbow sugar cookies (from scratch) while watching Snow White. These cookies are for a children’s charity event this weekend.
1:59 pm = Your instincts about Showtime tickets the other day was right, glad I didn’t do the interview. Thanks.
2:00 pm = I have awesome friends, I really do, however, with some people I cannot be 100% honest with in fear of judgment. This is the disadvantage of having so many different friends of many different backgrounds. There are only 7 people in my life (non rock star) that I can be 100% honest with who know all sides to me: the dark, the funny, the cute, the disturbed, the cynical, the smart, the ambitious, the destructive all without judgment. One of my New Years resolutions is to just tighten those whom I call friends. I don’t need a whole posse of people, just a small core that I can lean on. Those 6 are: Rob, Kent, Jamie, Peter, Cheryl & Kevin. All of which I consider to be my best friends.
3:50 pm = All of my Christmas cards have been mailed out, most of the packages going overseas have been mailed, all Christmas baking has been done. The only thing left is coordinating the family to put up the Christmas tree and make Christmas dinner at my step brothers.

blargh. today, i hate technology. everything is working fine, but it's just plainly frustrating and seems pretty uselessly complicated. one of the part-time tech guys seems frustrated with me because i haven't instituted a corporate-style backup system with copies upon copies of drives and off-site copies and all that. i haven't, because this isn't a corporate setup. i haven't, because it's not necessary. and mostly i haven't because i just don't care. it's set up and functioning at reliable, acceptable capacity. i am not an IT specialist, i am not a backup systems engineer. i do not care.
the boss feels he has to tread lightly with me lately. i guess i am a bit snappy, but it's only when he interrupts me 5 minutes after asking me to do something, to see if it's done yet. i'm trying to be more obliging but i'm just tired of being interrupted. mostly it's because i don't have a door and he walks into the room already talking to me - not *such* a big deal except that i'm not in his field of vision when this happens and half the time i'm on a phone call or in the middle of listening to something. no opportunity to finish and *then* pay attention to him. aggravating!
i am exceedingly happy the sun is hanging around. walked part way to work this morning, 5.3km. lovely. temperature was just right.

What: Crooked Vultures Where: Paramount Theatre When: November 21st Status: Sold Out Rating: 4.5 out of 5
If you’re not a fan of Queens, this would not have been your cup of tea, however, for those into Zeppelin, there was enough undertones of this sound to keep even the modern day jaded alternative music fan interested.
The opening act, Mini Mansions were terrible. This was not only a long bathroom break but a very good journal break. They performed the worst cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” which made me want to slit my wrists.
Them Crooked Vultures is a super group that I can take seriously like VR unlike some other super groups that have emerged this year including Chicken Foot. There was musical chemistry and sincerity in the music. The sound of the venue was decent and at times, the vocals were washed, however, still presentable none the less.
I’ve seen Queens a few times and Josh Hommes is very lazy and uncharismaticthe times. He often carries that pompous attitude like, “I don’t give a fuck that you paid to see me, I will still only give 40% of myself on stage.” At the show he finally stepped up to the plate like a real front man and was energetic, engaging and god forbid actually enjoyed being on stage.
Dave Grohl went back to where his known career started, back on the drums. His performance reminded me of why he was and still is one of the best drummers of the alternative music scene. His role still had power and magic even though his other projects put him in the front line of attention. Grohl’s arms are now massive and rightfully so considering the energy it took to play.
The audience were made of an eclectic variety of music snobs young and old from the oldies into Zeppelin to the now grown grunge kids appreciating the history of Grohl with a few scattered youngsters into Guitar Hero and Queens music. Overall a pleasant energetic crowd whom genuinely seemed into the performance.
